Q: How are dental implants different form dentures, partials, or crown and bridgework?
A: Dental implants are prosthetic teeth that closely mimic nature. The small titanium implant posts acts as a tooth root, a solid foundation on which an esthetic crown is placed. Dental implants can last a lifetime and require the same care that natural teeth need.
Dentures, partials, and bridges are held in place by clasps or adhesives, so the fit is not secure, and slippage occurs. While these prosthetics function adequately, they do not offer the solid, reliable function that dental implants offer, and they do not last as long.
Q: Will you treat my children?
A: Yes! We adore children and will be honored to help you entire family prepare for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Doctor Dubin may suggest dental sealants or fluoride treatment help protect your children's teeth from cavities.
Q: Why do I have to have a periodontal exam when I just want my teeth cleaned?
A: Gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss in America, and the symptoms are often mild and painless. Once this progressive condition takes hold, it can quickly advance from gingivitis to periodontitis. When you visit our Gaithersburg dental office for a checkup or cleaning, doctor Dubin will assess your gums for signs of periodontal disease. If detected, the disease can be eradicated and damage repaired with periodontal therapy.

Q: Can you give me a more attractive smile within a few visits, or will it take months?
A: Modern cosmetic procedures are relatively quick and offer lasting results. For instance, veneers normally require about two office visits, but they completely transform a patient's appearance. Teeth whitening in our dental office with BriteSmile takes only an hour, and take-home whitening systems work in less than two weeks. To find out which cosmetic procedures will deliver your best smile, call our Gaithersburg dental office and schedule a cosmetic consultation.
Q: How does Invisalign work?
A: Invisalign has revolutionized orthodontics for adults. The clear acrylic aligners are almost undetectable and completely removable. Dr. Dubin use 3D technology to design a system of Invisalign aligners that will reposition your teeth incrementally over one to two years. The aligners are made offsite at a dental lab. Every two weeks, they will give you the next aligner in your series, and the old aligner can be discarded.
You will have a straighter smile without compromising your professional, mature image! Schedule your Invisalign consultation today by calling our Gaithersburg dental office.
Q: How do I know which procedure I need?
A: It is impossible to know which procedures will be most beneficial until we have the opportunity to assess each individual patient. We are happy to schedule a complimentary cosmetic consultation.
Q: How much do the different procedures cost?
A: We prefer not to quote fees for cosmetic dentistry without a patient exam. When you schedule a complimentary cosmetic consultation, we determine the types of procedures that may benefit you and achieve the smile you desire. We then share with you a comprehensive cost assessment and explore fees and financial programs available to you.
Q: What are the most common cosmetic dentistry procedures?
A: Bleaching – Chemical or laser treatment of natural teeth for a whitening effect. Laminate Veneers – A porcelain facing placed on a tooth to change the color, shape or size of the tooth. Bonding – An adhesive dental restoration technique using a tooth colored resin to change the color or shape of a tooth. Crown – A Cap put on a tooth which may be made of gold, inert metals, porcelain or a combination of these materials. The type of material used to make a crown can determine the cosmetic appearance of the crown. Bridge – A non-removable, tooth-supported, framework that replaces one or more missing or damaged teeth with lab fabricated teeth. Laser Gum Contouring – A relatively quick and painless procedure in which small amounts of gum tissue are removed or reshaped in order to treat unhealthy tissue, or to change the appearance of the length or shape of the adjacent tooth.
Q: How long will it take my treatment to complete?
A: Treatment plans vary with each patient and are formulated once Dr. Dubin has determined which procedures will most benefit the patient. Simple procedures may take only one visit. However, treatment plans that include a variety of procedures may take several visits over an extended period of time.
Q: Will the procedures hurt? A: Generally no. At Dr. Dubin's office, we use a broad spectrum of methods to keep our patients comfortable during dental procedures. We use Conscious Sedation/Sleep Dentistry to help people who have fears about undergoing dental treatment. Conscious sedation refers to a state in which you are totally relaxed without fear, yet conscious. Several types of sedatives including Nitrous Oxide and oral medications may be used. If you will be receiving nitrous oxide, eat lightly before and after your appointment. After your dental procedure is over, you will receive oxygen for several minutes to clear the nitrous oxide from your system. In some cases, when certain oral medications are used, you may need to have a driver to assist in your return home.
Q: Do you have financing?
A: Yes. In addition to accepting cash, checks and most major credit cards, we have a number of financing options we offer our patients that provide the ability to pay for your procedures over a period of time.
